On 28 th May 2019 UWEZO Youth Empowerment collaborated with Nyange sector Musanze district to organize a community event that was aimed to increase awareness on issues concerning accessible water, sanitation and hygiene for girls with disabilities in schools, communities and homes.

Theater is one of the most effective methods that can communicate to a large group of audience, young and old with Theater for change we performed a play reflecting on some of the challenges that girls with disability face while accessing proper water, sanitation, hygiene and education as girls also they face double challenges with accessing clean toilets due to the infrastructure barriers.

A t the end of the theater session we also Provided WASH materials as an example to show parents some of the essential materials such as soap, toothpaste, tooth brushes, toilet paper and sanitary pads that gave parents a perfect example of what to have in order to practice proper sanitation and hygiene in homes and in schools.

Community members also took part in create more awareness within other community members themselves by providing solutions to certain issues affecting children with disabilities and correcting some of the mistakes that the community members make while providing services to people with disabilities but more so children with disabilities for example parents ignoring their responsibilities of taking children with disabilities to school and providing school materials, having class rooms, toilets or latrines and girls room with stairs or steep ramps that have led to school drops of children with disabilities .
